Yesterday at the Whiskyship Lucern I liked the Octomore Orpheus basicly very well. It cannot hide that it lasted only in a bourbon cask. The abv. Is nearly killing you, but keeps the tounge in a good mood. The peat part is not so strong in the finish but if you breath out you can smell it very strong. The winenote is the very interessting part of this Octomore. Not sure if and when I would open and enjoy my Octomore 2 140. Update March 2012, World Whisky Day, later in the day, water added, beginning of summertime and now it smells like liquorice mixed with Pulmex lotion and a ash-tray. Just suberb what you get out of this malt. Do not miss to add water to this malt!!. IMHO this malt is unbeatable. I do not know what complex realy means in Whisky terms, but I can imagine now with that example. Update June, 2014, I am an Idiot!!!. All who read this lines know why, its been affordable by the time I bought that one. And yes I opened the bottle. I have now left 40cl of this bottle. Just google how much you would pay for it nowadays. The share performing on a stock exchange gives a shit about it. I paied around 140 to 160 swissies for that one. |

This one is one of the seldom 10 YO cask strenght whiskys. In standard bottling. Has E150 in it, guess why? There is no explanation why to add E150 to a CS whisky. Nose: Peatsmoke, bites in the nose, but has nothing left and cannot compete other whiskys. Palate: Sweet and oily Finish: Again peat perhaps a little seasalt. With a teaspoon water added. Nose: Some seaside flavours Palate: Oily, sweet and soft. Finish: Peat and sense of very round salty seaweed. At least very different than the standard 10 YO. |

Heavy stuff! +64% abv, you can even add watter to it so that it sits at 44% abv, where this one is fairly drinkabale. Somehow interessing is that it has two finishes, one oily down the throat that burns strong and then the afterburner in the stomach. Now let us get to the nose: Somewhat lemony what you also see in the colour, there is yet salty humid sea breeze in it. The palate is sweet on the tounge, sharp in the throat. The finish a real hot experience. Nice to expierence an Islay unpeated. |

Arran ex Lochranza is a prosperous and very active distillery what produces very sofisticated well crafted spirits. Nose: Fruits and butterscotch, caramel Palate: Sweet and strong. Finish: Short but nice With a teaspoon of water added Nose: White chocolate, fruits caramel and buterscotch (even stronger) Palate: Sweet, sweet, sweet. Finish: Longer and warming. Perfect with that bit of water. |

What a color, red wine and bernstein was 5 years in a refill bourbon and 3 years in a Sauternes cask. Nose: A strong cask influence as expected the wine cask has a lot done, strong wooden influence. Palate: Sweet and oily Finish: Long and wine cask as strongest priority. With a teaspoon of water added Nose: Balanced out, the main influence has gone: Palate: Still sweet and very oily, gets stronger on the tongue Finish: Prickling on the tongue and wine cask again Very strong stuff, have a lot of fun with it. |
